Winter outdoor learning activities and the Curriculum

Personal and Social Development

Rippledown offers excellent opportunities for pupils of all ages to enhance their personal and social development.

  • Encouraging healthy lifestyles through outdoor pursuits and healthy eating
  • Developing good relationships and respecting the differences in people through:
    • Team building activities
    • Group work
    • Interaction with tutors and fellow pupils
    • Participation in decision making and activity planning
  • Develop relationships through work and play both in group projects and class downtime
  • Finding information through research projects like Mammal Trapping or Animal Tracking

Healthy eating and growing schools

Helping pupils learn how to make more informed choices about their own health and environment. Rippledown has experienced staff who can deliver classes in growing food, healthy eating and healthy cooking as part of the growing schools campaign.

Geography field studies

Rippledown can help meet Key Stage 2 geography targets. The centre is ideally situated within the beautiful Kent countryside and on the edge of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which provides a great opportunities for exploration and research. Rippledown is within walking distance from the amazing Kent coastline with it’s protected grass chalk lands, white cliffs and rugged beaches. Amongst other themes we can help you study water and its effects on landscape and people.

Literacy & Numeracy through Outdoor Learning

We provide outdoor opportunities for children to gain confidence literacy and numeracy where activities have an emphasis on developing:

  • Literacy through speaking and listening, and reading and writing within the context of an outdoor environment using a variety of topics such as environmental educational, geography, science and art and design
  • Numeracy through fun activities using numbers and algebra, handling data and shape, space and measurement.

Projects for your classroom

All of our activities are designed to provide you with materials and resources to take back into your classroom. We are more than happy to support and advise you with ideas for classroom projects after your visit.

We sincerely hope you’ll book a stay with us – just get in touch and we’ll be more than happy to put together a bespoke, curriculum focused programme of winter activities that the weather really can’t spoil, and one that ticks the boxes for LOtC and ECM.

Should you book to do any of these activities and the weather is completely inhospitable we’ll have materials ready and waiting for outdoor learning lessons in our covered outdoor classroom or in the warm rooms in the old Victorian Rectory. Oh and we forgot to mention the price - only £69.00 per child for a 2 night, 3 day, fully catered stay at Rippledown between November and February!
